What is Lucite?
The way we would describe Lucite is "the marriage of plastic and glass." It is as light as plastic, but with all the shine and some of the fragility of glass. Unlike most plastics, Lucite cannot be bent at all, instead it snaps when force is applied to it, but does not shatter easily when dropped like glass.
Mirrored Lucite is our particular favorite as it is LITERALLY a mirror. As you can notice in the photos in our shop and our fashion shoots, there are blurred dark spots on up to clear images on the pieces that are actually reflections of a flash, a camera, or a multitude of other things (even myself!). In particular, it is difficult to capture the true shine of mirrored Lucite with a camera because of these reflections, but to the naked eye, this material is truly stunning.
Our Friendly Forest Framed animal necklaces have solid piece of mirrored Lucite on the back that makes a perfectly clear mirror for discreet primping checks without having digging through your bag for a mirror!
Metals
KidViskous uses only precious metals for our chains and findings (jump rings, clasps, wire, etc). All silver chains and findings are sterling, all gold findings are 14K gold-filled so the color will neither wear off like most plated metals, nor cause allergic reactions. Sterling silver has a natural tendency to oxidize and turn darker (that's how you know it's real silver!), but it can easily be polished at home with a silver polishing cloth or you can purchase a silver cleaning solution and carefully follow the directions they provide.

Charms and other decorative metals like our sharks and guns are all base metal.
